Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to solve the problem for me. I still
have crashes in unbind_to in xterm.c due to x_error_message == 0.
I'm appending the backtrace from gdb.
In that case, let's do go back to the previous code and see if things
work better--as Yidong recently suggested.
