The additional brain-power needed for avoiding the highlighting is not
something I invest.

That was different while t-m-m was not the default: in this case, you
_needed_ it when switching on, and so that additional work was invested
for a purpose.  Merely avoiding the highlighting is no comparable
incentive: that's just being anal.  And between me and the computer, I
tend to leave that to the computer.
