about xwidget_mvp branch

I try emacs xwidget_mvp branch yestday, but failed, the problem is:

set-window-buffer: Symbol's value as variable is void: xwidget-view-list

my question are:

1. Why "Symbol's value as variable is void: xwidget-view-list"
2. Does xwidget_mvp must build with gtk3, what about gtk2.
