Weird echo area message

From: David Kastrup
Subject: Weird echo area message
Date: 15 May 2003 16:26:46 +0200

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English if possible, because the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the address@hidden mailing list.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

If I type
M-x quoted-insert RET
then after a moment the echo area will display
M-x q u o t e d i n s e r t RET-
in expectation for a following character. The - of `quoted-insert'
will not get displayed in any way.

Weird.

In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.3 (i686-pc-linux-gnu)
 of 2003-04-26 on lola.goethe.zz
configured using `configure '--prefix=/usr/local/emacs-21' '--with-gtk''
