as I said in my previous post, this was just an example of how we have to work
here. The problem is caused by the java GUI application, we have to use.

I beg to differ. I do understand that you will not support Clearcase directly,
but if we make it more difficult to use emacs with Clearcase, users will just
abandon emacs and this can't be our goal. The number of emacs users here in
my company is already dwindling, lots of users use vim, ultraedit, nedit and
VSE. The main reason is IMHO that many developers start a new editor for
each editing task and this is partly caused by the fact that we have to use
two GUI tools for our work (our configuration management and RoseRT and the
both interact if at all poorly with emacs). I have shown our users how to
cope with these problems using emacsclient and auto-revert. But if matters get
too complicated they will just simply use nedit or vim for their editing
tasks and this can't be our goal.

Richard> Emacs is more popular than Clearcase, and maybe we could help

I really hope your not mistaken here and if it's so, we better make sure that
it remains so, but certainly not by telling our management, that we can't work
cause our editor does make it difficult for us to work under Clearcase.

Richard> blunt the threat that Clearcase poses to our community.

And yes I agree that Clearcase is a threat.
