set-frame-font problem in recent CVS on Mac OSX

Symptoms:

command: set-frame-font
enter: -apple-courier new-medium-r-normal--0-0-75-75-m-0-mac-roman
emacs immediately crashes

This used to work until fairly recently.  Similar crashes
with most other fonts.  No crash if instead I enter an available
font with a specified size after the "--" such as:
-apple-monaco-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-m-140-mac-roman
