Not (yet) directly Planner-related, but interesting: in
http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/EmacsAsDesktopBackground is described
how Emacs content is integrated into the desktop background. Since a good PIM
should be always available this seems to be an interesting idea.

The integration is done with Sawfish, a Lisp-based window manager for Gnome. I
couldn't get Sawfish started (does it have problems with UTF-8?), so I couldn't
try it out personally. Looking at KDE I found out that I can use "kwebdesktop"
to fill the desktop background with published planner pages, but the result
isn't ideal, and it does require HTML publishing as an intermediate step.

Having live PIM views embedded in the desktop would be a nice feature, since I
use a lot of virtual screens, and switching windows just to look up some
appointment data is a bit tedious. Maybe a use case for Looking Glass? The
demo doesn't look so bad
(http://wwws.sun.com/software/looking_glass/demo.html).
