No, the new files are mode 0644, just like the old files.
One more data point: if the new files are unsaved, I get prompted to
save them, but the problem (i.e., no publishing) happens regardless
of whether the new files have been saved at the point when I publish
or not.
I'm not using the HTML versions much yet, but I can see this
becoming annoying in the future.
