It would be nice to have (setq planner-tasks-file-behavior 'close) in my
.emacs. Unfortunately, tasks fail to get automatically sorted prior to
C-x C-s. Or was this addressed already?

You can set planner-tasks-file-behavior to 'close:

,----[ C-h v planner-tasks-file-behavior RET ]
| planner-tasks-file-behavior's value is close
|
| Controls behavior of task creation and updates.
| If 'close, newly-opened files are saved and closed.
| If 'save, newly-opened files are saved and left open.
| If nil, no actions will be taken.
|
| You can customize this variable.

Okay! <laugh> I guess 'close is the reasonable default for
planner-tasks-file-behavior, then. Sharon, thanks for pointing this
out! Jim, thanks for helping. Everyone, thanks for putting up with a
maintainer who buries interesting, useful functionality in obscure
variables... ^_^
