This looks really surprising. Could you please send me the file

obj-<ARCH>/config.log

(note to take it from the obj-directory, NOT from the top build directory!).

Ideally, send them for both configure-versions!

Note, that this is not really a problem, as you should still be able to
compile ESPResSo, only it might not chose the perfect combination of
compiler flags. Note, however, that you can always manually give the
compiler flags that you prefer via the variable CFLAGS via:

Example:
configure CFLAGS="-O4"
