Please, let everyone in the Fle3-dev mailing list to know what kind of
extensions you have thought. I am sure everybody is very interested in
to hear what you would like to build on top of Fle3.

I assume that in the development of Fle3 there is going on several
parallel major higher level tracks. Here are those I am aware of:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
(1) Shared group calendar with announcements

Check the User Story:
http://church.uiah.fi:8080/fle3docs/12v3_calendar.html.html

Nobody is currently working on this. Anyone interested in? The User Story is worth of reading.

(2) Statistics for the user of her activity in the system

Check the User Interface design:

(3) Map View of Knowledge Building

This is something we have dreamed on from the very beginning of the project. More thoughts on this topic is already in the archives of this mailing list, have a look at:

http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/fle3-dev/2003-01/msg00000.html

If someone have some other ideas on what direction we should develop Fle3, please let everyone in the list to know.

(4) Integration of Synchronous Tools (Map Tool) to Fle3

This is something we in Helsinki are working right now.

With the Ants team in University of Murcia we are trying to integrate their synchronous tool called Map Tool to the Fle3. The Map Tool consists of a whiteboard drawing area and chat. The tool facilitates collaborative creation of conceptual maps, diagrams and textual communication among students from the same course. It allows drawing lines, simple shapes, arrows and importing images from a local machine. All figures and images can be connected using lines and arrows. In Fle3 it will be also possible to save a Map Tool session to the shared course folder and open session saved earlier.

The Map Tool supports (1) presence awareness (showing in the Fle3 the users that are using the tool); (2) whiteboard awareness (telepointer showing who are working in the drawing area - you can draw same time with another user); (3) late coming (if a user comes late to the session, he/she can retrieve the previous session information).

If you are interested in to get a picture how the Map Tool will work with Fle3 have a look of the following User Story:

http://savannah.nongnu.org/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&project_task_id=942&group_id=1942&group_project_id=427

More information about the technology of the Map Tool is available at:

http://ants.etse.urv.es/

In a week or two we should get a a first internal demo server up and running. This server will be a total hack and no way anything we want to release. There is several technical problems (the Map Tool needs some proprietary java server to work) to make a full integration of the tools.

If someone is interested in to help us with this, please contact Tarmo.
