Only the teachers of the course (role in the Fle3 courses) should hold rights to write to the "announcement page" - one announcement page per course, no commenting allowed, no student's own weblogs (in the case of teacher adding all students role to be a teacher in that course everybody can write to the announcement page).

Just a quick note here: Fle3 courses also have the "tutor" role, which
I think should have the rights to add stuff to the blog. That way the
students can be given access to the blog if necessary. Giving teacher
roles to all students isn't very secure - anyone has access to remove
all others from the course.

I remember that some kind on announcements or course calendars have
been on the to-do list for a long time. Implementing them via blogs
seems like a natural way of proceeding, since the blog UI is pretty
familiar to more and more people. If we start doing some kind of
"sticky notes" UI design, it might work out, or might not. And the
added features of the blog (like the rss feed that students can tune
to) are a big bonus.

Just do it (tm). :)
