I just noticed this same artifact with a couple of sfnt/cff fonts.
Converting the affected fonts with cfftotype1 allowed them to work
correctly, so it is definately a bug in the cff loader.

I am currently at cvs HEAD as of 2007/01/08, so the bug was already
in as of then. I have to upgrade again tonight, but if you are seeing
it in the release I doubt that'll help....
