Same problem. Transcript below. Could this be something with the system
libraries or headers or is this something in freetype? I'd back off to
1.3.X, but it also fails to compile.

`config.mk' from this directory then read the INSTALL file for help.
Otherwise, simply type `make' again to build the library.
