Yes, 64*64=4096 subpixels per pixel.

btw gray_render_scanline() and friends use a much higher resolution to
calculate areas and pixel coverage (32.32 if I remember right). 26.6 is
used only for "hi-level" coordinate system.
I asked about 26.6 notation because 24.8 sounds more "natural" to me
and 2^24 is already big enough for any application I can imagine.
