While at uni, I relied on reuse of GPL code, thereby requiring a GPL
release. Although in at least one case, I had agreement from the
department for doing it. It wasn't pretty code, though, so was fairly
worthless to anyone else, I think.
It's a sorry state of affairs, having to classify things as useless to avoid
being prevented from publishing academic produce. I don't think it happens
in general, so why for software?
