Hm... Well, personally, the most useful thing to me was filename
itself. I've just checked Krusader just to see exactly what other
information is available there, and it has filename (not full-path),
followed by size in bytes, and finally MIME type. I guess that file
name could be added for start, and most of the additional data could be
added later, based on other people's needs as well.
One more feature might be to change this statusbar as the mouse cursor
moves over a file in addition to keyboard movement.

Btw, you've done a rather good job with Gnome Commander so far :)
