I don't have any better recommendation unfortunately. But if you're
looking into cheaper hotels, it would be a good idea to move a bit
indeed.

The edge areas of Paris are usually less expensive.

Here, Ibis porte d'Italie, at the south of IRILL (1.2 Km) seems to be cheaper:

There's also th Ibis hotel at Porte de la Villette seems to be at
~60 € / night. It is on metro line 7, which will bring you directly to
the IRILL directly in 35 minutes.

You also got one Porte d'Orléans, which is not far from IRILL (40 min by
foot, ~20 min by metro), and might have a little better neighborhood than
porte de la Villette.

I couldn't manage to check the price however.

I only checked the Ibis ones, there might be others. I did not check
hotel quality neither. I just wanted to indicate that you can target
hotels near "Porte de whatever", there are on the edge of Paris and
might be cheaper than the ones nearer the center. :) And using metro or
walking is really fine, so if you're ok to have a little commute time…
