What does happen is OpenGL gets rendered into a Gtk "drawable", not a
canvas.

I see the number has been fixed to 1.0.5... but are you sure that's right? 1.0.5
was a security/stability fix, that I seriously doubt would have had such a thing
be new, and I'm not seeing anything in the release notes or searching bugzilla
that looks like it. I *would* expect it to be new in 1.5, since 1.5 had a lot of
back end changes.
