I used to have scripts to launch one or the other by means
of MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH env variable. See wiki

Ming is a good one, but you should accompain it with somthing external
to produce the graphics (it's easier). MTASC is a compiler which lets
you do AS2 (classes).  No "intergted" environment I'm afraid.
I'd go Ming + anything that lets you export in SWF for assets.

Try and check, at every step.
It's about the same debugging process you'd do when targetting
Adobe, with only difference that Gnash gives you much more verbose
error reporting (and you have sources and a nice and cooperating
bunch of hackers :)
