Hi,

gnokiid is sotfware modem emulator. It means you can use standard AT

does understand them and the DLR3P cable (and IRDA) can work in the modem

thanks, for your experts help - i just didnt know that
6210 has the modem built in ... what can i say :-( ....

so now i'm embarrassed that i still can't get it to work.
probably at this stage this is a question not to be posted
at this forum as it is (by now) not exactly related to gnokii
anymore. yet one of you might still have the answer anyhow:
following your advice i simply added the nokia 6210 as a
modem to my wvdial.conf file like this

more /etc/wvdial.conf

[Dialer modem1]
Baud= 115200
Dial Command= ATDT
Dial Prefix= Init1= ATZ
Init2= AT&FV1E0&D2&S0&C1S0=0
Init3= AT+CBST=0,0,1;+CHSN=1,0,0,0
Init4= ATS7=60+CBST=,,1;+DS=3,0;&K3
Init8= Init9= ATX3
Modem= /dev/ircomm0
YaST2 Record= modem

[Dialer Nokia_6210]
Ask Password= 0
Auto DNS= 1
Auto Reconnect= 0
DNS1= DNS2= Demand= no
Idle Seconds= 3600
Inherits= Dialer modem1
Password= *********
Phone= *********
Provider= Nokia_6210
Username= **********
YaST2 Record= provider

the various init-strings i grabed from a windooze setup of
the nokia 6210 which works without problem .....!"ยง$%&/()=?

so now, when i use 'kinternet' to connect to my cooperates site
i only get up to the CONNECT. after that kinternet tries to
exchange username and passwd several times but fails and the
pppd daemon dies with exit code 16.

checking the messages i get
# tail -n 20 /var/log/messages
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded.
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Perms of /dev/ircomm0 are ok, no 'mesg n'
neccesary.
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: using channel 6
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Using interface ppp0
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ircomm0
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic
0xcbb0a408> <pcomp> <accomp>]
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 last message repeated 4 times
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Modem hangup
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Connection terminated.
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Exit.

if i compare this to my 'usual' logins via my pcmcia-modem (which works
just fine) it seems that pppd is waiting for some kind of 'rcvd' after
the first 'pppd[4928]: sent...' but never gets it ... yet, as i said
i'm no linux-guru and i'm stuck again.

any clue on whats wrong here ?

thanks,
wolfram
