The official SGI releases are quite stable in my experience, but
if you want to run newer kernels, you have to resort to prereleases
which are sometimes problematic.  (Apparently, it's easy to mistake a
prerelease for the final version, a colleague of mine once did that and
I spent days with debugging why mmap() corrupted data on some machine,
but not on the others.)
