That's not unreasonable, but:

I do now, yes.

However, it looks like (from another thread going on now) that we will
need to change the format of both the patch log directories and the
archive format in order to compress the names so that it works on
Windows. 

Since we have to change these formats anyways, why not kill two birds
with one stone?  As I proposed before, we can use a subdirectory, say
"patch-logs" which doesn't require = to be prepended to tagging-method.

Right.

Actually, if we can get rid of the = in tagging-method, you have my word
you'll never hear anything further from me about the filename prefixes.
