In the implementation areas you draw a lot of analogies to Emacs.
It's obvious that for existing Emacs users Emacs is still not quite
optimal, but a very plausible platform for an experiment.  But we have
not seen one elaborated yet.  So I don't see a naive TTY interface as
a big area for new demand.[1]

I would give some of the GUIs and other less naive UI ideas that are
flowering right now a few weeks, some will bear fruit, some will go to
seed ;-), and that should give you a better idea of what is and is not
needed, and how much it is needed.

[1]  Ie, I see non-Emacs users as sufficiently similar to Emacs users
to project overall needs, although non-Emacs users would surely object
to all the Emacs baggage that itla could dispense with.
