 Which in the case of MacOSX is true, "except" that the high level 
filesystem calls include this...

 So fopen works as expected (assuming I remember correctly), but the 
regular mac os system calls work as before.

 Though in real mac programming, using a filename is actually sloppy, 
but that's probably more detail then you want to care about...
