tla inventory would be perfect (in my mind) if it were a globbing
tool that could work outside the tree. Otherwise, for example when
I create semi-symlink farms (some dirs symlinked, some built,
some with their contents "randomly" symlinks/ built files),
I end up having to use my own globs anyway.
Bearing in mind that my "build" directory is a subdirectory of
my project tree, albeit not tla add'ed. So tla inventory can
walk the parents to find the globbing rules.
But I was retorted with "tla inventory only works in a proper
tree" or something.
It would be particularly useful if tla inventory behaved more
generally, working with whatever set of files (eg. my build dir)
that I give it.
In addition this would lower another barrier to entry (for those
used to such generic functionality from bitkeeper).
I don't understand the resistance to this one, except that it is
perhaps a case of "it's not insubstantial effort, so show us the
code", which would be an acceptable response. But that wasn't the
response I got last time I brought up this issue.
