thanks for the interesting conversation and good pointers :)

after receiving an old nokia e90 from a friend changing for android, i
did play with the presence of such a smart phone device in my
life... still wondering if that is really useful :) what a smartphone
really gives you more than a normal phone? so far i think GPS
navigation, emails, group chat/twit and the latent possibility to go
VOIP and save money on calls, of course keeping these functionalities
compact into the only "generic information device" you are carrying
around.

so now i think a free smart phone to be succesful should provide such
base functionalities. sorry if that was obvious to you but i need to
start from a solid base to build further and avoid getting lost later
:) i'm also curious what in your experience a "smart phone" should be,
after all it is a device just getting out of its morphogenesis stage.

my problem with android OS is that, besides it not being free and not
being freeable also in my opinion, it uses Java language which i also
dislike very much.. :)

so what i was looking recently into was Maemo, especially because
Jebba (BLAG's old chap) got involved into it.

now of course is not the best time to mention this, after Nokia had
signed a contract with m$ and hit a -10% stock value in a day for it,
seems departments busy with Maemo and QT4 there aren't in good
waters... but i'm still wondering if anyone here had a look at it and
considers it maintainable in future. if yes, i think that has the
chance to become 100% free, it's foundation is already compatible with
major packaging systems.
