I find this a confusing use of “we”.
IMO, one cannot on one hand say that GNU maintainers are only trusted
for the technical job they were “recruited” for¹, and on the other lump
them together in a hypothetical “we”.
Maybe “we” was meant to refer to something else, but regardless of the
intent, it’s likely to be misunderstood.
