The new client will remove from its backend profiles pick list those
which do not point to a proper database version (by name). This,
however, only happens if NOT run with the --debug option (IOW,
in production mode).
In effect in normal operation one will only see those profiles
that should be correct for this client. That will at least make
people *wonder* where their profiles went after upgrading. Thus
they will find out, adjust, and later know.
There is no safe and sane way to auto-upgrade existing profiles - nor
will this be wanted in many cases. But the above behaviour makes
things safer.
The v11 database (for client 0.5) will also include a gm-apply_db_fixups
script which makes it a lot more convenient to execute the last paragraph
of http://wiki.gnumed.de/bin/view/Gnumed/ServerUpgrade2
