Hi everyone,

I am delighted to report that the first release of gnuspeech has now been made.

The cross-platform gnuspeechsa (just software that uses the gnuspeech speaking ability) can be used to listen to the articulatory speech produced from text, or using additional modules can incorporate speech output in applications. This possibility is mentioned briefly and explained in Appendix D of the main gnuspeech manual that is in the gnuspeech tarball. Marcelo Matuda, who produced the gnuspeechsa derivative is working on cross-platform versions of Monet, TRAct and so on. He has been associated with the Festival work.

Please spread the word when you've had a chance to checkout what is there, including the manuals. There is still work to be done to get Monet writing new data files so new languages can be created, or the English databases improved, though much of the back-office work has been ported. Anyone willing to pitch in?
