I am trying to figure out more.
So far, it seems that osx-pl2303 is not really open source any more. I
have ditched it and installed the prolific drivers.
So, I think the only evidence so far is trouble with osx-pl2303.
Therefore it makes sense to narrow the "unsupported" to that driver
only; there's nothing apparently wrong with OSX in general.
