No, it's not a typo. But it does rely (as does the entry for
version.texi) on carnal knowledge about the file names that Automake
constructs for stamp files, and that could easily have changed in a
recent Automake version. Are there any other names similar to
`stamp-vti' and `stamp-vti1' in the generated Makefile.in? (These
file names aren't documented at all in the manual.) It may be that
there is now a more correct way of doing what these rules are trying
to do.

Does it work with Automake 2.50? (I can't tell because I don't have
the new auto tools up and running yet.)
