This sounds like an excellent idea, though I have some vague (possibly
misguided) recollection we'd discussed a plan for cleaning up the API
more generally -- did we? -- if so does this fit in with that?
Sorry for being so vague -- hopefully if I'm not just hallucinating,
this will jog someone's memory.
