Dose the ‘string-upcase’ suggestion work for you?  I thought we had come
up with a solution, I hope I’m not holding anything back in this area!

FWIW GNU fdisk has (outdated) Parted bindings in C, not sure if that’s
worth reusing; perhaps we’d be better off rolling our own with the FFI.
