Hi again,

You did exhaustive tests. It is a great work !
At time, the GWhere catalog file is encoded with the local encoding 
(like ISO*) instead of UTF-8 encoding.

I fear, I should change the catalog file encoding to UTF-8 in order to 
solve your trouble...
