autoconf failures on the latest flex snapshot

I'm not such a hot autconf guy so I need some ideas.

This snap:
ftp://ftp.uncg.edu/people/wlestes/flex-snapshot-2003.01.05.tar.gz

I had this problem:

]$ ../../autoconf/autoconf-2.54-install/bin/autoreconf --install --verbose
autoreconf: working in `.'

I also had problems with autoconf 2.57

$ ../../autoconf/autoconf-2.57-install/bin/autoreconf --install --verbose

/home/gianni/downloads/autoconf/autoconf-2.57-install/share/autoconf/Autom4te/General.pm
