It's possible that the makers of your ispell or ispell-bg packages
changed some default values in the ispell binary. You could search
for useful strings inside the binary with the strings programme.

There's no need for such extreme measures: "ispell -vv" should display
all those strings in human-readable English.

And it's even less output!
