No, it lists 16. Really. :-)

"/usr/sbin/grub-bios-setup: info: /dev/sdX is a parent of /dev/sdX2."
is logged for every disk in the output, so:

| grep -c "is a parent of.*2\.$" grinst.txt
| 16

:)

This all looks like it's not entirely GRUBs fault in the end.
Now that we found only 8 disks are discovered by GRUB through BIOS
probing.
