[Help-nano] Tabs to spaces

I've been looking all through the documentation, but I can't find
anything on how to do this:

How do I set nano to insert 8 spaces when I hit tab, instead of a tab.
 If this is not currently doable (I'm using a 1.3.5 gentoo ebuild), it
would be a really useful feature addition.  Direct entry could always
be used if a literal tab was needed.
