Variable names

This question might seem very trivial to some - but it is important to me - so 
I am asking. 
Can octave distinguish between variables named :

alpha and alphan or alpha1?
h and hd ?
V and vvvv?
m and mmmm?
minf and mInf- will it have doubts abt Inf and machine Inf ?
