Thanks for your suggestion. I tried:
pkg rebuild -noauto oct2mat;
and then restarting Octave, but this made no difference to the figure window
behaviour; it is still unresponsive.
I also tried:
pkg unload oct2mat;
as suggested by Anthony Richardson, but this also made no difference.
I even tried:
pkg uninstall oct2mat;
The unresponsive behaviour still remains.
