It's supposed to work with Tex and Latex, and it does.
I verified that it the src-specials does work with texi2dvi as long
as the user sets the environment variable

export TEX='tex --src-specials'

So the information that the elisp kdvi-search package needs to
navigate through the DVI file is present.
The missing link appears to be that Emacs texinfo mode does not work with kdvi-search. It's a shame, because having the DVI displayer
follow track your mouse point in the Emacs buffer is great.

Sounds like this is an issue for the texinfo mode maintainer.
But it would be nice if texi2dvi allowed the --src-specials
argument to be specified directly rather than via an environment variable.
