customizing repo branch to checkout

I wish to change the branch policy for GNU RCS repo (under Git) such
that the branch 'master' will no longer be around.  In its place there
will be branch 'q', and furthermore it will be rebased often, i.e.,
there will be no guarantee of "fast-forward" only on "git fetch".

What must i change or specify for hydra to DTRT?  I don't see any
string "master" in hydra-recipes/rcs/release.nix, and the manual:

section 3.2, "Job Sets" shows an example subversion checkout only.
IIUC, a job set is at a higher (previous?) level than a "derivation"
(i.e., .../release.nix), so i suspect maybe it's not even possible for a
normal hydra user to customize, although i hope i'm wrong.

Where can i find more information on customizing the GNU RCS job set?
