I realized that a successful installation of c code needs libxml2
manually, which seems not consistent with the system requirement.

libxml2 is part of OS X, so you don't have to install it yourself. (If you do, the new libxml2 will probably conflict with the one provided by the system). Theoretically it should be recognized by igraph out-of-the-box when you run ./configure before compiling it. Can you post me the last few (say, 20) lines of the output of ./configure on a clean igraph tree?
