I just discovered that I had forgotten to restore the port setting in
my ~/msmptrc.txt file from port 465 to port 587; the port setting has
now been restored as follows:

> port 587

However, fixing this setting apparently has no effect on the error
message; _viz._ (after restarting Gnus):

> message-send-mail-with-sendmail: Sending...failed with exit value 78

I'm still stumped here.  Any possibilities?
