Hi Mike,

Thanks for understanding. GitLab consists of many moving parts and a
tar-ball is not a very conventional way of distributing a ruby
application. As you can see in
https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/blob/master/doc/install/installation.md
installing it manually is quite a slug.
