I agree with the discussion on bug-gnulib: the order so far has been
that names are assigned and supported by config.{guess,sub} first,
then Libtool and others follow suit.  Otherwise, madness ensues.

I'm afraid you will have to negotiate with the config maintainer.
Feel free to Cc: me.  It is probably a good idea to cite the discussions
here and on bug-gnulib, if only to show your commitment on the issue.
