As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I planning to write some kind of
tutorial section on mensural notation with lilypond, including a
comprehensive example/test file, as soon as it is basically running.

Well, what do I mean by saying "basically running"?

For now, most notably, mensural ligatures are missing, and the
TimeSignature problem (see my preceding mail to Laura) may turn out to be
difficult to solve cleanly (font mapping problem in scm/font.scm).

Mensural ligature grobs should, as opposed to ligatures of neumes, be
fairly easy to implement since they do not require any additional syntax
(the "\[", "\]" is sufficient); and the construction is fairly straight
forward.

However, the horizontal alignment is critical.  I definitely do not want
to model a ligature (like \[ c d e \]) as a single grob, since text
scripts like fermata on the last note of a ligature (something like
\[ c d e ^\fermata \]) would not work any more: the fermata would be
aligned to the left edge of the ligature (above the c) rather than to the
right edge (above the e).  But the c, d and e must be glued together
(maybe using loose columns?).

A year ago, I asked, if something similar like GraceContext would be a
solution to this problem.  Maybe I should ask again, now that the
implementation of graces has been rewritten?
