That's a very interesting idea!  Durations need to be specified
outside the chord, of course, so that's not a concern.

OTOH, what about doing something like this:
  c\maj
  c\dim
  c\chord #'(1 4 5)
  c\chord #'(1 3 5 7 11)

If somebody used a lot of special chords, they could define their
own identifiers to replace the \chord functions.
