I had Gmail filters set up in a wrong way, so that I missed some
LilyPond-related messages in my IMAP client, including the one you sent
with this logfile.  FWIW it fails the same way on your Ubuntu box than
on the Debian unstable box I tested today: make in Documentation starts
with making version.itexi, then goes on with lilypond-book without
generating snippets first.
